February Update

Hello again, another late post for the monthly recap, maybe I should just aim for mid-month instead of close to the start of the month. Any way another busy month with university but hopefully things should be a steadier going forward…

University

TM111

I submitted my final TMA for this module at the end of February and this course is now down, I’ve managed to keep all of my assessment scores above 90% so far so I am just hoping I’ve managed to get enough in the final TMA to pass which only requires 30%. Overall, I did enjoy the module and learnt a lot about the history of computers. I now have a solid foundation on the OSI model and basic network fundamentals. This module did help me make the decision to pursue a career in software development instead of cyber security which will now make my next modules much easier to pick. I am planning to start TM112 in October and then TM129 in February.

MU123

I have submitted my first TMA and got a score 90% which I was extremely pleased with. I don’t find maths that interesting, but I see it as a means to an end to get my degree. Fortunately looking at the section it’s more statistics based which I am looking forward to learning more about.

Elevate Mentorship

At the beginning of the year the Open University sent an email asking for people to participate in a mentorship program. Naturally I jumped at the offer and submitted and application thinking it was worth a go. I’m pleased to say that I did get accepted on to the program and have already had my first meeting with a mentor. I have been tasked with learning a few skills to make sure I am giving myself a solid base for web development. I am currently learning more about the React framework (designed by Facebook and used for the front end of the site) and Tailwind which is a CSS framework used to make websites look presentable. I’ve been using Scrimba to learn these skills as it uses a mixture of video tutorials which are interactive and allow you to put the theory into practice. I am also in the process of going through my GitHub and redeploying my projects in preparation for a new portfolio site so you will see another update to this site before long.

Well that it’s really all I need to mention is the change of URL for the site which could be explained but it’s a rather long-winded affair and I have spent too much time talking already. Anyway, I’ll speak to you in the middle of April unless something else comes up in the meantime.
