August/September, Year 1 Done

Well this is an uncharacteristic end of month round up, that is because I have finished MU123 which also means I have completed my first year as an Open University student.

MU123

Well its been a tough few weeks with this module to be honest, I lost all interest in it with about 4 weeks before it was due to finish. However I managed to power through and get it done the required reading done. I managed to get my final ICMA completed and handed in on time and on Sunday I completed my EMA and submitted it. On the whole the module wasn’t plain sailing for me as I haven’t really looked at mathematics since my GCSE’s. I have certainly learnt a lot over the course of the module and really hope the new found maths skills will benefit me in future modules.

Lessons Learnt Over The Last Year

  • Note taking is far more effective to do by hand and really improves retention.
  • Submitting TMA’s for maths with LaTeX is unnecessarily complicated.
  • Scheduling study time is really important.
  • Making sure I take breaks is important as well.
  • Using the examples from the text book and applying it to TMA questions is really effective.
  • Trying to learn other things on the side is a serious distraction.

WordPress Migration

I spoke last month about looking to migrate away from WordPress and after giving it some thought I’ve decided not too. Yes WordPress may be a OTT for my needs but it’s up and running and not giving me that many issues. Plus the hassle of setting up the blog again isn’t something I really want to do over the next couple of weeks and as the old saying goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Well that’s it from me till the end of October now as I am going to take a well deserved break from studying and probably have a beer or two. So I’ll speak to you all soon when I have started TM112.
